Alasdair is the founder of BSS and has practiced as an Architect and Building Consultant for many years and for a period was also Head of the Building Unit at RMIT. His expertise is as an Architect, specialising in the residential field, and as a Building Consultant giving expert evidence in building disputes.

David Gairns (Director)

Chartered Building Professional

David has worked at BSS since 1990 and David has combined a career in mainstream construction with the practice of building consulting. He was a senior lecturer and research fellow in Architecture and Building at the University of Melbourne, after working as a project manager. David is a much published author. His expertise is in the area of building disputes, and the investigation of a wide range of building problems.

Paul McLaughlin (Director)

Paul has worked with BSS since 1984. Prior to that he enjoyed a wide range of architectural and practical experience with a number of firms in Melbourne and London. Paul's managerial role as Director of Architecture is in the day-to-day consultation with clients and general office management and planning. His expertise is in understanding client's needs, to develop the design and formalise the proper documentation to achieve the required solution to those needs.

Who is BSS?

BSS Group (the name coming from previous companies Building Surveying Services, Building Consultants, and Design Group Australia, Architects) had it origins in the early 1980s when Alasdair MacLeod conceived the vision of creating a company known for providing assistance to people with everyday building problems. Helping people with concerns regarding the maintenance of their home or a new home under construction and similar building related issues quickly became the focus.

The vision includes wide ranging architectural services from initial design consultations through to comprehensive design and documentation services for residential, institutional and commercial projects.

BSS is a Practice Member of the Australian Institute of Architects.

 

While BSS has grown the core values and principles have remained. We aim:

• to listen to and respond to client needs. This is reflected in our motto: "First we listen, then we advise"
• to provide a range of approachable, low cost building consulting and architectural services
• for our commercial clients we also provide a range of fixed fee, time critical services
• to provide an architectural design focus with inspired yet workable design solutions for everyone
• to provide truly independent professional advice
• to gather together a range of tried and tested Trade and Professional services to which we refer clients when the need arises
